This recipe will be very flavourful and it will be a great treat to spice lovers.You can use any type of fish.I have used Mackerel which is known as Ayala/Kaanankeluthi meen in tamil.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 kg of Mackerel fish(head and body cut separately)
- lemon size tamarind
- 1/4 spoon of turmeric powder
- 2-3 spoons of chilli powder
- 2 spoons of coriander powder
- 5 cloves of garlic
- 1 medium size onion
- 3 medium size tomato
- 1 green chilli
For grinding,
- 1/2 onion
- 1 spoon of pepper
- 1 spoon of cumin seeds
- 4 spoons of coconut shredded
- Salt to taste
For temper,
- 2 tablespoons of gingelly oil
- 1 spoon of mustard
- 1/4 spoon of fenugreek
- few spring of curry leaves
Method:
- Clean the fish pieces and keep them ready.
- Soak tamarind in hot water and extract pulp.
- Meanwhile,mash the tomatoes using hand.Take the remaining skin part of tomatoes into mixer jar along with items under grinding.
- Grind them into smooth paste with water.
- Heat the pan in which you are going to prepare the kulambu.
- Add oil,when it is hot,do the tempering using items listed under temper.
- Saute garlic,onions,green chilli till raw smell leaves.
- Now add the grounded paste and saute well.
- Later add the prepared tamarind pulp and required water.
- Finally add turmeric powder,chilli powder,coriander powder and salt.
- Allow to boil till the required consistency.
- Lastly add the fish pieces,and cook for 7-8 minutes.
- Now the kulambu is ready to be served.
- It goes well with white rice,idly and dosa.
Note:
I have used only the fish head parts for kulambu,since head parts go well with kulambu. But you can add both.
